Ferdinand Homers in Loss to Villanova

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA--Villanova University banged out 11 hits and took advantage of nine walks to post a 9-2 win over Bloomsburg University in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday.
The Wildcats, members of the Big East, jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Nick Ferdinand (Bensalem/Archbishop Ryan) and got one run back for the Huskies with a solo homer in the fourth before the home team made it 6-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Bloomsburg made it 6-2 in the sixth when Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock South) singled, stole second, went to third on a long flyout by Ferdinand and scored on sacrifice fly by Kevin Ward (Clifton Heights/Monsignor Bonner). Villanova tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth to make the final 9-2. The Huskies did load the bases in the ninth inning with two outs, but could not get a run home.
Donofry and Ferdinand each had two hits for the Huskies who fall to 8-7 on the year. Villanova, 5-6, got two hits each from Matt Sczur and Kyle Carver.
Bloomsburg will play twinbills at Shippensburg at 1 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. The games on Friday were originally set for Bloomsburg but were moved since Litwhiler Field is not playable at this time.
